Anerlisa Muigai, a businesswoman, was compelled to provide clarification regarding an incident that occurred on November 13, 2023, when she uploaded a picture of a marijuana plant to Instagram.

The government of Kenya made November 13 day a national holiday so that people can plant trees to help preserve the environment. Fans leaped to assumptions, thinking she was endorsing the content despite her post's lack of a caption.

In an Instagram story, the Keroche heiress addressed the speculation, saying: "You guys and your comments. My bad, I didn't look too deep into the picture."

She added, "Never smoked anything in my life." Anerlisa Muigai aimed to dispel misunderstandings regarding her post and affirmed her stance on substance use.

In Kenya, it is illegal to use marijuana, even for medical or recreational purposes.

Penalties for growing, selling, and possessing cannabis plants range from a maximum 20-year jail sentence to fines of one million shillings, or three times the market value of the confiscated cannabis if it is used for personal purposes.

Politicians have, however, expressed support for its legalization.

The government formally proclaimed November 13, 2023, as a special holiday and encouraged everyone to plant trees as a patriotic act to counteract the dire effects of climate change on our nation.

The Kenyan Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry pledged to supply tree seedlings in an "unprecedented demonstration of the Government's commitment towards our climate action responsibilities."

"It is a moment for Kenyans to stand in solidarity in the defense of our environment, a 'hummingbird' contribution day, with everyone joining forces to combat the climate change crisis," said Environment Minister Soipan Tuya, emphasizing the day's significance.

Since taking office in September 2022, President Ruto has prioritized the National Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Program, highlighting the government's dedication to environmental preservation and restoration initiatives.
