Majimbo asserted that colorism was the reason she departed Kenya for the US, where people now appreciate her skin.

She expressed that she has no allegiance to Kenya and is solely focused on securing opportunities, sparking mixed reactions among netizens.

Some of her followers encouraged her to stay where she felt appreciated, while others questioned why she thought she was the only dark-skinned person living in Kenya.

US-based Kenyan content creator Elsa Majimbo has opened up on what forced her to flee from the country at 19 years old.

The 22-year-old comedian disclosed that people hating her for being dark made her run away to a country where people worship the skin she is in.

"There was a lot of colourism. There is just a lot of colourism in Kenya. I faced a lot of it when I grew up but even before that, there were a lot of comments on 'oh, you are so dark', like 'oh look at that tint', she is so ugly, why because she is dark. There was so much of that, and when that started happening when I was growing up, I was like, I will never progress in this country with this kind of mentality," she said.

Majimbo also maintained she is not playing victim mentality and added that she pledges no allegiance to Kenya.

"I am loyal to one thing, the bag. In the US, everyone is like oh my God, look at your skin, it is so stunning, it looks like pearl, it's shining, oh darling, so why wouldn't I not be paid in dollars?" she added.

Her post garnered mixed reactions from social media users who questioned why she would make such a statement, especially considering that the majority of people living in Kenya share a similar skin tone.

The comedienne, who has been mingling with Hollywood stars, previously asserted that she never feels safe when in Kenya.

Majimbo mentioned that she spent a significant amount of time indoors in Kenya due to perceived animosity. However, netizens flooded her comment section with different opinions. Some pointed out Rono, who is in Kenya and engages in similar activities as Majimbo, yet hasn't faced similar challenges despite having a dark skin tone.
