André 3000 released one of the year's most surprising solo projects: an all-flute record. One of his 12-minute pieces recently became the longest song to ever chart on the Billboard pop charts.
The singer, well-known as a solo act and a member of the hip-hop band Outkast, has broken a Billboard record for the longest song to ever chart on the Billboard Hot 100.
Andre 3000's flute hit had a similarly lengthy title: "I Swear, I Really Wanted to Make a 'Rap' Album But This Is Literally the Way the Wind Blew Me This Time."
The song debuted at No. 90, with a run time of 12 minutes and 20 seconds, and "becomes the longest-running song ever to have hit the chart, surpassing Tool's 'Fear Inoculum,' at 10:21 in length," according to Billboard.
Andre 3000, at 48, has hinted that he may have outgrown the hip-hop scene. Much of his fan base has resisted this, embracing new music instead. His all-instrumental album, "New Blue Sun," debuted at number one on the New Age Albums chart.
