A new Christian nightclub named The Cove forbids twerking, drinking, and smoking and encourages people to have fun in a Godly way.
Located in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, the club attracts an eclectic mix of Christ-loving Gen Zers who come to worship and dance with like-minded people.
The Cove nightclub was founded by seven young Black men who wanted to fight the post-pandemic fall in church attendance, particularly among Black Protestant congregations.
Another purpose of the club's monthly events is to provide young adults, many disillusioned with religion, with opportunities to experience Christian fellowship outside of the church.
The club's founders include artists, a social media expert, and others who wanted to provide their generation a safe, authentic, and engaging experience.
“We ourselves experienced a pain point of not being able to find community outside of our church, not knowing what to do to have fun without feeling bad for doing stuff that’s conflicting to our values,” Eric Diggs, The Cove’s 24-year-old CEO, told AP. “There wasn’t a space to cultivate that. So, we created it ourselves out of that pain point—the loneliness, the anxiety, depression, COVID, and the long quarantine.”
Since its initial pop-up event in November 2023, The Cove has held monthly events, reaching out to a broad group of young adults from various backgrounds. They are ethnically varied and wear a variety of brands and styles.
Participants are led through an evening of engagement and connection—with God and one another. Carlton Batts Jr., one of the founders and frequent emcee, asks the entire group questions that divide them into groups and reveal the diversity represented.
