In a viral video circulating on social media, Pastor James Maina Ng'ang'a of Neno Evangelism Church has advised his congregation against buying phones that cost more than Ksh 20,000. Pastor Ng'ang'a expressed concern that his followers might struggle with the burden of repaying loans taken out to purchase such expensive devices. He questioned whether it was wise to spend so much money on phones, urging them to consider more affordable options.
"Why would you spend Ksh 20,000 on a phone? You make your daily payments, and maybe Safaricom can give you a loan. Perhaps you need to have a certain level of innocence. Pastor Ng'ang'a stated in the video, "Your mind will be consumed by a phone that costs Ksh 20,000.
It's interesting to note that Pastor Ng'ang'a claimed that he personally uses a phone valued at over Ksh 240,000, despite his own advice to his followers not to purchase expensive phones.
"I put some money to my phone, which cost Ksh 240,000, and someone offered me Ksh 160,000 to buy it. So why do you feel the need to get a phone? You know, I don't even use a phone. I exclusively use Facebook, YouTube, and WhatsApp on it; I don't use any other apps. But because of my class, I place it on the table when we go there," Pastor Ng'ang'a said.
The pastor, known for his often controversial views, has faced criticism in the past for openly challenging others. Most recently, he was involved in a public dispute with Naomi Maina, whom he claimed to be his daughter.
