Dick Munyonyi, a well-known Mugiithi artist, has been hospitalized. He rose to prominence in 2021 after his song 'Firirinda' went viral.

On Thursday morning, his pals and philanthropist Karangu Wa Muraya informed their internet admirers that Munyonyi had been admitted to the hospital and hoped for a swift recovery.

The classic song by Dick Munyonyi became a smash 35 years later.

In discussion with Gukena FM, the singer revealed that he had a throat illness. Over the years, he has been in and out of the hospital.

Munyonyi revealed to Nairobi News in January that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Mr Munyonyi stated that he had begun chemotherapy and hoped to be able to continue entertaining his followers.

"I had a heart problem, and now I've been confirmed with stage one prostate cancer," he explained over the phone.

In 2022, singer Kajei Salim turned to Facebook to beg Munyonyi followers for help with Dick's hospital bills, totalling roughly Sh1.5 million.

"Dear friends, musicians, and fans of Dick Njoroge Munyonyi's 'Firirinda.'" I'm writing in response to a phone call from our legend, Dick Munyonyi.

He contacted me and told me that he has been sick for some time and that he desperately needs our moral, spiritual, and, most importantly, financial support to help him pay his medical bills, which total more than Sh1.5 million," stated Kajei Salim.

In 2022, MCSK CEO Ezekiel Mutua also promised to fund the artist's medical bills with Sh100,000 from the pay bill kitty.

Dick Munyonyi began his career in 1971 and was invited to perform at the wedding of former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 1989.

Fans of Munyonyi have flocked to Karangu's Facebook page to wish him a swift recovery.
