The Consumer Federation of Kenya (COFEK) is mulling a class action lawsuit against organizers of the Boyz II Men concert held in Nairobi on June 10.

The move by COFEK follows widespread complaints by fans over issues including lack of adequate toilets, poor sound and screen, inadequate food vendors, and alleged overbooking.

RnB group Boyz II Men and Kenyan band Sauti Sol were the star performers at the Stanbic Yetu Festival at Uhuru Gardens. COFEK is inviting attendees to share their experiences as well as proof of purchase of a ticket.

“We will then analyze the complaints and raise them with the event organizers. If we don’t secure satisfactory responses COFEK will take decisive action which may include a class action lawsuit on behalf of the complainants,” stated COFEK Program Officer Caroline Njue.

On Sunday, June 11, social media had been awash with complaints from fans who attended the event. Many complained about the experience of attendees in the Regular and VIP sections.

Videos of unhappy attendees chanting complaints about the sound and screen throughout the performances have been circulated.
There were numerous complaints about a lack of seating in the normal area as well. One visitor complained that the VIP area was overbooked, which COFEK shared.

“The organizers must have been too greedy. The VIP that was to take 180 people ended up have nearly 400 people. It was too full to make any sense of being at the venue and being called VVIP – and which went for Sh30,000 per head,” an attendee identified as Michael told COFEK.
“Security guards were overwhelmed. At one time, I was worried about anyone who would have fainted. I just do not know how the ambulance team would have reached him or her.”
