The Ugandan socialite Zari Hassan has been compelled to defend herself after an audio tape purportedly showing her disparaging her spouse Shakib Cham Lutaaya was released.
Zari may be heard disparaging her spouse in the recording, using words like "young," "naive," and even "fala" (loosely translated as "stupid").
Zari has clarified the facts around the release of the recording in reaction to the audio that was released.
She has singled out a UK promoter named Lady Naa for betraying her trust by disclosing the tape after it was initially supplied in private.
Zari has stated that she did not want to disparage her spouse by calling him a "fala," but instead in jest.

She had expressed displeasure that women frequently turn to make their private chats public when they disagree.
"I was merely watching out for my spouse, alerting a friend or someone I believed to be a friend... And it's always women that (do that), and she gives the impression that this is my first time doing this," Zari remarked.
She chose to utilize that voice when it wasn't inappropriate. She said I wasn't talking negatively about my spouse; we were chatting and having a good time.
In addition, Zari has discussed the difficulties of dealing with immigration, regardless of one's IQ or prior travel experience, and the necessity of abiding by immigration laws because even a tiny error might lead to expulsion.
Regardless of how intelligent you are or how many places you visit, immigration will always be immigration. You may start as you arrive at the airport. You are returned to your starting point. Everyone who travels knows that no matter who you are, you should never joke about immigration. You're sent back with one little stammer," Zari stated.
The leaked recording has sparked a contentious discussion online, with views on Zari's comments and their ramifications being divided.
In response to the tape release, Shakib had said: "Love will make you look foolish. But your pride can make you pass up an opportunity you'll never have another chance at. Never criticize your husband in front of anyone. Respect me while I'm not here. That is all I request.
