Hon. Babu Owino, the Member of Parliament representing Embakasi East, has been renowned for his outspoken and contentious stance on various matters. In a revealing disclosure, the legislator shared that his mother resorted to selling chang'aa, a local illicit brew, to support the family's financial needs. Although this led to numerous arrests, it also played a pivotal role in enabling him to pursue his education.
Responding to the situation, Hon. Babu Owino expressed the view that the trade of chang'aa should be regulated to prevent potential harm caused by excessive consumption. He further urged Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has been actively combatting the illicit brew trade, to prioritize creating job opportunities for individuals involved in the business. By providing alternative means of income, Owino believes that people will be more inclined to abandon the chang'aa trade.
