Staff under embattled impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's office have been denied access to Harambee House after they were sent on compulsory leave.

According to Citizen Digital, officers from the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) had camped outside the premises on Tuesday as they turned away all staffers reporting for work.

108 officers working for the embattled leader were sent on leave after the Senate approved his impeachment.

However, no officer or staff member agreed to comment on the standoff.

This comes days after Principal Administrative Secretary Patrick Mwangi directed all department heads on Saturday to ensure they designate a responsible officer to take over operations immediately.

"All Heads of Departments shall ensure conformity to these directives by 12:00 pm on October 19, 2024," Mwangi said in a statement.

The directive came after the Senate impeached Rigathi Gachagua and President William Ruto nominated Kithure Kindiki to replace him.

Gachagua still holds that he is the appointed Deputy President following a stay order from the Court halting the Senate's decision to oust him.

He awaits the court's decision on the matter.
