Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives have arrested two suspects for allegedly attempting to extort Kes 2 million from the Director General of a state corporation.

The two suspects, Francis Onyango and Abigail Janai, demanded the money in exchange for withdrawing a court petition accusing the Director General of embezzling public funds.

According to EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi, the arrests occurred on Friday during an operation at Bonds Restaurant in Nairobi.

The suspects were apprehended after receiving Kes 1.7 million, a portion of the demanded Kes 2 million.

They were first processed at the EACC Integrity Centre Police Station before being transferred to the Kilimani Police Station.

They have since been released on police bail while investigations continue.
