Police in the Narok West sub-county are investigating a road accident that happened near the Serena Hotel killing a tourist and injuring two others in the Maasai Mara on Sunday.
According to Narok county commissioner Isaac Masinde, tourists were in a Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to Bush Adventure, which was being driven by Antony Munene, aged 50.
The vehicle had five passengers, three Germans and two Swiss, at the time of the accident.
“The vehicle was from Fisi Camp in Oloolemutia heading to Isabania border and on reaching at the location of accident about 1km to Mara Bridge, the vehicle swayed, veered off the road and overturned due to muddy road condition,” Masinde said.
After the collision, one German gentleman, perhaps 50 years old, died instantly from a major head wound, while another German received head injuries.
One Swiss person experienced neck pain. The German and the other Swiss both made it out safely.
The two hurt tourists were flown to Nairobi's Aga Khan Hospital from Serena Airstrip.
The vehicle was towed to Ololulunga police station while the body was transported by road to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
In the Mara, there has been a lot of rain, which has rendered several routes unusable.
