Police officers are holding a man in custody accused of brutally beating his 3-year-old stepdaughter to death.
The child's mother and her new husband are currently being held at a police station in Bureti sub-county.
Villagers reported that the stepfather regularly hits the child when he returns home from binge drinking because he is not her biological father.
According to neighbors, the guy arrived home on the tragic day and began arguing with his wife before turning on his daughter with blows and kicks till she lost consciousness.

They stated that every time the man went on a drinking binge, his pals teased him for reportedly marrying a woman with a child, which evidently enraged him.
As he assaulted the child, the mother raised an alarm, drawing the attention of other villagers, who raced to the scene and transported the youngster to Roret Health Centre, where first aid was performed before transferring the child to Kericho County Referral Hospital for further treatment.
However, the kid died from her injuries while physicians attempted to resuscitate her. Officers were informed of the incident, and the couple was arrested.
The child's body is currently housed at the Kericho County Referral Hospital, awaiting a postmortem.
