ODM leader Raila Odinga concluded his campaign for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship with a final stop in Burundi, where he met President Evariste Ndayishimiye and expressed gratitude for the warm reception. He also thanked his supporters for their backing throughout his campaign.
Following his visit to Burundi, Raila announced that he would proceed to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the final phase of the election process. He expressed confidence in his candidacy and assured supporters of his readiness for the challenges ahead.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi called on African nations to support Raila, saying he has the experience needed to bring stability and progress to the continent. He pointed out that Raila understands Africa’s challenges and has what it takes to provide the right leadership.
Mudavadi also mentioned ongoing conflicts in parts of Africa, such as Sudan, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He stressed the need for a leader who can address these issues and push for peace. He believes Raila is the right person for the job.
The elections for the next African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson will be held on February 15 and 16 in Addis Ababa, where African leaders will cast their votes. Raila Odinga will face off against Djibouti’s Foreign Minister, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, and Madagascar’s former Foreign Minister, Richard Randriamandrato.
