Virgil van Dijk has been released from the Netherlands squad ahead of their Nations League clash against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Tuesday.
The Liverpool captain played the full 90 minutes in a 4-0 win over Hungary on Saturday, a victory that secured the Dutch second place in Group C and a spot in the Nations League quarter-finals in March.
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has also been excused by manager Ronald Koeman after returning to international action for the first time in 13 months following persistent ankle injuries.

“For both Frenkie and Virgil, it’s better for them to leave the training camp at this moment,” Koeman explained. “The decision was made on medical grounds, prioritizing the players' well-being.”
Van Dijk has been instrumental for Liverpool this season, playing every minute of their Premier League campaign and helping the team secure a five-point lead at the top of the table. Arne Slot’s squad will resume domestic action on Sunday with a trip to Southampton.
