Eduardo Camavinga limped off against Getafe in La Liga on Saturday, just days before Real Madrid's Champions League clash with Manchester City.

The 20-year-old French midfielder has emerged as a vital player for Carlo Ancelotti's reigning European champion, and an injury would have been a significant setback for Wednesday's semi-final second leg at the Etihad Stadium.

Ancelotti calmed Madrid's anxieties after the game, stating Camavinga twisted his knee, but it would mend quickly and was not a cause for concern.

According to Spanish media reports, Camavinga is expected to be fit, with the tie hanging in the balance after the first leg ended 1-1 last Tuesday.

Camavinga was instrumental in Vinicius Junior's spectacular strike in that game, rushing up the pitch from left back to assist Madrid in grabbing the lead early on.

To break clear of City's press, the Frenchman exchanged passes with Luka Modric and carried the ball to the other end before feeding his Brazilian teammate.

Camavinga, on the other hand, was partly to blame for City's equalizer, with his pass intercepted before Kevin De Bruyne slammed home.

Camavinga makes mistakes when he plays on the left side of defence instead of his native centre-midfield position, but he is getting more trustworthy game by game – even though he would prefer to be played elsewhere.

Ancelotti has recently sought to get his best 11 players onto the pitch in crucial games, which has resulted in Toni Kroos playing holding midfield and Camavinga playing left-back.

Instead of competing with Kroos and Aurelien Tchouameni for the No. 6 spot, his versatility has helped him become a regular for Madrid.

Even though Camavinga has played further forward in midfield at Rennes, Modric and Fede Valverde occupy those key positions.

Camavinga's placement has occasionally cost him, notably in his early matches at left-back, although he is growing swiftly and receives little defensive help from teammate Vinicius.

Camavinga was instrumental in Madrid's record-extending 14th Champions League championship last season, albeit primarily as a replacement in the final stages of games.

In the semi-finals, the midfielder provided energy to the club and helped them get through extra-time periods against Chelsea and Manchester City.
