Kericho senator Aaron Cheruiyot has blasted Siaya governor James Orengo over his sentiments about the ongoing border clashes, accusing him of playing cheap politics.

In a previous tweet by siaya governor James Orengo, he called the clashes pure genocide driven by state terror and asked the government to take responsibility.

"What is happening in Sondu is plain genocide driven by state terror. The regime must take direct responsibility. What’s the point of going to Haiti when you cannot protect life and property within your borders?" Orengo tweeted.

Kericho senator Aaron Cheruiyot called on the two leaders to visit the region and asses the situation instead of insinuating matters.

"Stop this cheap, petty parochial politics that you and Nyongo are playing. Rise above these and take time to visit the area. Away from the comfort of your AC-filled offices, you will discover there have been killings on both sides. Security agencies must out all the criminals." Aaron Cheruiyot posted

"We condemn this barbaric behaviour and call upon the national government to swiftly apprehend the criminals and ensure justice is done to the affected families," the governor stated in a statement.

The clashes was apparently prompted by a cattle theft event on Monday, in which a man from the adjoining Soin Sigowet sub-county was slain for allegedly being involved in animal theft.

Kericho youths are claimed to have retaliated by raiding homes, resulting in injuries and deaths. Clashes have occurred along the Kisumu-Kericho border throughout the years as the two counties disagree on the position of the boundary that separates them.
