According to the Masaba South sub-county Health director Dr. Evans Monda, all 174 students from Amabuko Secondary School in Masaba, who had been admitted to various hospitals over food poisoning complications are in stable condition.
The Health Director has confirmed that many students have been discharged, with only a few remaining in hospital.
Speaking to Egesa FM, Monda said that the cause of the complications has, however, not been established as medics are still collecting samples of the food the students ate for laboratory examination.
Further, Monda urged parents to remain calm, and there is no reason for panic.
"Most of them have already gone back to school it is only a few who were left because they had other issues," he said.
According to reports, 23 students were treated at Keroka Sub County Hospital for severe stomach pains, with an additional 76 students admitted to Gucha Maternity Hospital and 55 others admitted to St Catherine Ichuni Mission Hospital, all of whom were experiencing similar symptoms.
Some 20 students in critical condition have been transferred to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital with county ambulances around 6:00 a.m. on Monday.
While the exact cause of the illness is unknown, the complications are suspected to be caused by a meal consumed by the students on Sunday night.
