One person died on Wednesday after allegedly consuming meat from a cow that died in the Kaptembwo area, Nakuru County.
Four other people received treatment at Londiani District Hospital for diarrhea and vomiting and were discharged.
Confirming the incident, Nakuru County Government Chief Officer of Veterinary and Livestock Dr.Michael Cheruiyot said the deceased was one of five people admitted to the facility.
Dr.Cheruiyot says the cow the locals ate was being treated for an unknown illness before it died.
Despite the owner's orders to bury the carcass, neighbors defied the order and chopped up pieces of meat to cook and eat.

Further, Dr. Cheruiyot also warned residents against eating uninspected meat and urged those who had eaten it to seek immediate medical attention.
