Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale has stated that the Nairobi County Government would be responsible for running Uhuru Park and Central Park once renovations on the two sites are completed.

Duale made the news while touring the two parks with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja recently.

Duale noted that the parks will be given over to the Nairobi County government in time for the Nairobi Festival week, which will take place from December 11 to December 16, 2023.

"Except for a few final touches, the facility is ready for handover to the County Government of Nairobi and ready for citizens to enjoy its modern amenities," Duale is quoted by Nairobi News as saying.

Since September 2021, the two parks have been receiving repairs under the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) 's care to meet international park standards.

The parks will house many recreation areas, including an outdoor gym, running tracks, botanical paths, and a skating rink.

Uhuru Park will also have multiple restaurants, high-end hotels, the landmark Nyayo statue, Mau Mau independence fighters memorials, and a more defined freedom corner in honor of Prof. Wangari Maathai.
