President William Ruto has announced that the Kenya Kwanza government is putting in measures to ensure that country does not import food anymore.

Speaking in Eldoret, Ruto said this will be possible as his government will double subsidized fertilizers for farmers to increase food production.

Further, he said the government will subsidize the fertilizer to ensure that farmers use 100kgs instead of 50kgs per acre of land during planting.

"I know most farmers use 50kgs of fertilizer per acre. From next year, we will double that and by 2025 Kenya will not be importing food into the country again. We will make sure that our farmers produce enough and benefit from their hard work," he said.

The Head of State further said that his government has subsidised drying facilities for farmers so that they don't undergo post harvest losses as a result of poor drying.

Additionally, he has promised to buy maize from farmers for Kes 4000, but urged farmers to sell to the highest bidder, and not necessarily the government.

"The government will give you Kes 4000 per bag but we will not force you to sell to us. If you find someone with a better price just sell to them. At the end of the day it's your maize.”
