Two people died in a road accident involving a 14-seater matatu in the Awasi area along the Kisumu-Nairobi highway on Friday morning.
They died at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), where they had been rushed for treatment after sustaining severe head injuries.
Confirming the accident, Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer (RTEO) Allan Mwangi and seven other passengers were also admitted to the facility for treatment.
He said the accident occurred after one of the matatu's tyres got a tyre burst.
The admitted passengers also sustained head and chest injuries and are undergoing treatment at the same facility.
