After a brief illness, a candidate for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) at Boro Secondary School passed away on Tuesday.

After returning home on Monday evening, the candidate became unwell, leaving her with just one day to finish her exams.

She was taken to Siaya County Referral Hospital right away.

The girl's mother brought the issue to the attention of the school administration on Tuesday, asking if plans could be made for her to be brought her remaining paper at the hospital, according to Siaya County Director of Education Mr. Mbugua Kabaki.

This led the principal of the school to go to the hospital, where the administrator discovered that she was now on oxygen support because her condition had gotten worse.

According to Mr. Kabaki, the principal advised the supervisor not to bring the paper. Regrettably, the hospital contacted the principal a few hours later to inform them that the candidate had passed away.

The girl had a history of poor health through the third term of school, according to the County Director of Education, before the unexpected illness.

Her body is currently awaiting a postmortem at the mortuary of Siaya County Referral Hospital.
