More families continue to leave their homes after being displaced by raging floods following the ongoing El-Nino rains in Homa Bay County.
More than 100 people from Bala and Maswa villages were displaced last evening at the Koyugi location within Karachuonyo Constituency after river Awach Tende broke its banks due to heavy downpours on Sunday night.
The families were evacuated to Bala and Buru primary schools after their homes were marooned by water from River Awach Tende.
According to Koyugi Chief Irene Ojwang, more than 50 houses were damaged by floods and are no longer inhabitable.
The floods also washed away crops in large tracts of land as several household items were destroyed. The floods also killed chickens and other domestic animals in the affected homesteads.
