The High Court is set to deliver a judgment on petitions challenging Kenya’s Finance Act 2023 on November 28.

A three-bench of Justices David Majanja, Christine Meoli, and Lawrence Mugambi will decide on the petitions.

The Act was put into effect on July 1st, and before Judge Mugure Thande issued conservatory orders delaying its execution, numerous petitions were filed contesting it.

On June 22, 2023, the parliament enacted the Finance Bill 2023, and on June 26, President William Ruto signed it.

Later, on June 30, the High Court would halt the act's execution following the filing of numerous applications.

The case will be heard on September 13 after the Court of Appeal lifted the suspension on July 29.

Senator Okiya Omtatah of Busia, together with six other individuals, filed a lawsuit in an attempt to halt the implementation of the 2023 Finance Act.

Omtatah argued that the Finance Bill contains amendments to several laws that have nothing to do with raising revenue and laws that affect the work of the Senate to protect the interests of counties and their governments.
