Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged kenyans to employ safety measures and avoid taking unnecessary risks as flooding continues to cause devastation across the country.

According to DP Gachagua, 37 87 recorded fatalities resulted from people defying nature and entering dangerous floodwaters.

"37 of the 87 deaths caused by El Nino occurred as a result of drowning." Not floods coming into your house, but you going to where the floods are and daring nature," he stated on Tuesday in Kwale County.

Furthermore, the Deputy President harshly criticized certain Kenyans' impatience and irresponsible behavior, citing incidents in which people recklessly risked perilous waters in their eagerness to reach their destinations despite obvious warnings.

“Kenyans are cruising rivers when they can see the waters are menacing and they are rough. And they still insist that they are in a hurry to go somewhere, and they never reach there,” he stated.

Furthermore, Gachagua questioned the possibility of government intervention when Kenyans, in his view, intentionally put themselves in danger.

“I want to appeal to the people of Kenya wherever they are to be responsible. How do we intervene when you yourself get into a river and you can see the way it is flowing?” he asked.

Gachagua also advised Kenyans to prioritize their safety, considering the impact of their actions on their families.

"We want to encourage Kenyans to take care of their lives and to remember that they have families." They are people who care about them even if they don't care about themselves. "Let us not be daring, let us not attempt to cross a dangerous river," he warned.

He also announced that county-level security teams had been dispatched with the mission of preventing intentional attempts to threaten people's lives.

“We have instructed county security and intelligent teams to put measures into place, to assist Kenyans on how to be responsible. Let our officers not allow people to drown themselves,” he said.
