Three traffic police officers were arrested Thursday morning in Naivasha, Nakuru County, after being caught asking for bribes.

Anti-corruption detectives arrested the officers at a place notorious for bribe collection along Mai Mahiu Road near the Karagita intersection.

Another officer, according to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), resisted arrest and fled while firing rounds to halt the detectives who were chasing him.

According to the anti-graft bureau, no injuries were reported as a result of the gunshots. While the arrested officers were driven from Naivasha to the EACC Integrity Centre Police Station in Nairobi for processing, the detectives found the expended cartridge.

In other news, the Anti-Corruption Court is scheduled to sentence two officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who were found guilty of accepting a Ksh.1 million bribe, concealing evidence, and impeding the lawful duties of Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers.

The Milimani Anti-Corruption Court convicted Cpl. Julius Onyango Oguma and PC Charles Macharia Wanjiru of the offense during a prior hearing on November 23. They were confined in the Industrial Area Remand Prison until their trials.

According to a report received by EACC in November 2018, the two apprehended a Chinese national at Kabete Police Station for entering the country without the appropriate papers.

The two cops allegedly threatened to prosecute the Chinese national and demanded a bribe of Ksh. 1 million in exchange for his release.
