Transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has directed the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to rein on motorists illegally using their private vehicles as Public Service Vehicles (PSVs).
Speaking in Nairobi on Thursday in Nairobi, Murkomen expressed concern over the flaunting of road regulations and tax obligations by private vehicles operating as PSVs.
"There are some vehicles illegally operating as PSVs across the country. They don't pay any licensing fees because it is illegal and they are operating at a higher speed because they are not regulated in terms of speed," said the Transport CS.
"They are not inspected hence they don't pay inspection fees."
While cautioning motorists against illegally using their cars as PSVs, Murkomen urged Kenyans to ensure that the public vehicles they use for commuting are duly registered and compliant with the law before choosing to board them.
