The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has detained the Deputy Land Registrar of Kisamis Lands office in Kajiado West for allegedly seeking a bribe of Ksh. 148,000 from a complainant to release 74 Title Deeds.

Sheila Nandako, the Deputy Land Registrar, was detained alongside her accomplice, an officer working for her named Washington Wahome.

On Thursday, the two were processed at the Integrity Centre Police Station and later booked at the Kilimani Police Station for further action.

The EACC, in a statement, said, “Kajiado Lands Office is among those with many complaints of corruption in land transactions. In the instant case, the Deputy Land Registrar has allegedly directly and indirectly, through the named officer, been extorting money from citizens seeking facilitation of land transactions.”

According to the commission, the arrest of the two land officials is part of continuing operations around the country to control and disrupt corruption at service delivery locations where citizens seeking services are often subjected to extortion by corrupt public officials.

Members of the public who have information on suspected corruption by a state or public official are urged to disclose it to the EACC for investigation.
