Five people were rescued after a boat capsized in River Migori in Matanda, Migori County. The search is still on for one other person.
In a statement on X, the Kenya Red Cross announced that six people were using the boat to cross the river when the tragedy happened. However, only five people had been rescued.
“Early this morning, a boat capsized at the River Migori in Matanda. Thanks to the quick response and support from the community, five individuals were successfully rescued. Unfortunately, one person remains missing. The Kenya Red Cross and the County Government have mobilized additional divers for continued search and retrieval efforts,” read the statement.

Redcross stated that rescue operations for the missing person are ongoing and that more resources have been mobilized for the search and retrieval efforts.
As of December 1, the overall number of deaths caused by floods caused by the current El Nino rainfall in the country has reached 142.
According to Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, rainfall is likely to continue over the southern portions of the country, with a decline in intensity and coverage across the northern sections of the country.
