Kenya Red Cross in collaboration with the public has launched search and rescue operations for families stuck in rising waters after Voi River burst its banks on Monday morning.
Kenya Red Cross says the situation has ’caused flooding in villages within Voi Town.’
The area has been experiencing significant rainfall for some time, which has led to floods.
In the past, most locals blamed the floods on the widespread sand harvesting and brick-making along the Voi River.
It is reported that multiple bottlenecks in the river caused by dredging the river bed and banks resulted in the banks breaching.

The flooding of the Voi River occurred days after Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki of the Interior and National Administration gave assurances that the government is taking precautions to guarantee that no one else perishes from the floods by giving at-risk areas plenty of notice.
Speaking first, he had just overseen an evaluation of the flood risk brought on by the seven Forks dams overflowing by top government officials.
The government has reported 142 fatalities from flooding brought on by El Nino rainfall.
He stated that when the rains return in a week or ten days, they anticipate that the five dams will fill up and overflow, which will have an impact on the inhabitants in Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Kitui, Garissa, and Tana River counties.
