Two members of the parliament from the Mount Kenya region have raised concerns over the delay in completing the Mau Mau road that links Murang’a, Kiambu, Nyeri, and Nyandarua counties.
Juja MP George Koimburi and his Kangema counterpart, Peter Kihungi on Sunday urged the national treasury to release funds to complete the road.
They argued that in the recent assented supplementary budget, the amount allocated for the road was slashed from Kes 280 million to Kes 175 million.
Further, they highlighted before the end of the Jubilee administration, the road was allocated Kes 4.5 billion and substantial works have been done on the ground.
Kihungi emphasized that the road's economic benefits to the nation and the neighborhood make it imperative to be completed.

He stated that since the project is stagnating, the government should work to ensure that the building of the Mau Mau route resumes as soon as possible.
The last term of the Jubilee government saw the construction of Mau Mau Road, but last year's lack of funding caused the project to come to a standstill.
The about 165-kilometer road, excluding tributaries, was to consume about Kes 4.5 billion and was meant to commemorate Mau Mau war veterans and open up the Aberdares forest ecosystem.
On his part, Koimburi said they promised their people that the Mau Mau road would be completed once the Kenya Kwanza government assumed office.
He called upon the transport cabinet secretary to pump funds to complete all the roads within Mount Kenya, which are under construction.
Koimburi said within six months, the works should resume failure to which they will mobilize residents to hold peace demonstrations in demand for funds for the road.
