A traffic police officer was on Sunday night killed by a runaway vehicle at Koteko Road Block along Malaba-Bungoma Road in Teso North Sub County.
Eyewitnesses say the driver of the vehicle, suspected of ferrying smuggled goods, defied the Amagoro Patrol-based police to stop for inspection.
The vehicle, instead, sped off towards Bungoma from the Malaba Border, running over Police Constable Nancy Chepchumba.
Constable Nancy was rushed to Kocholia Sub County Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body has been moved to Moi and Teaching Referral Hospital in Eldoret, awaiting postmortem and burial.

According to Teso North Police Sub Commander Joseph Matiku, they have launched investigations to nab and bring to book the driver of the runaway vehicle.
Area resident John Ichasi told KNA that four police officers have been killed in similar circumstances at the same Koteko Road Block, wondering why the police are not telling the truth surrounding the death of these officers.
The deceased sister, Naomi Chepkemei, said they are yet to come to terms with the sudden death of their sister, who was the family breadwinner.
“I am appealing to the government to speed up the investigation to ensure justice has been served,” she said.
