President William Ruto is currently presiding over the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nairobi's Uhuru Gardens today, 12th December 2023.

First Lady Rachael Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua accompany the President to the venue. This will be Rutos' second Jamhuri Day celebration since taking office in 2022.

Kenyans flocked to the Uhuru Gardens in the early morning to witness the ceremony.


The country commemorates 60 years of independence after being colonized by the United Kingdom between 1901 and 1960.

Other heads of state and national leaders join the President.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, his wife Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, and other leaders are present.
