Kipchumba Murkomen, Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, has stated that those criticizing him will sing his praises in three years.

The CS, under fire for recurring power outages and other infrastructure issues at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), revealed that plans for a new airport terminal are underway.

Using a biblical metaphor, the Transport Secretary stated that if this action plan is implemented in three years, all his critics will praise him.

"Come next January, we would have advertised the construction of a new airport terminal at JKIA, and in another 3 years, those who are saying, 'crucify him, crucify him,' will be saying 'Murkomen hosanna hosanna'," stated Murkomen.

Moreover, Murkomen, who appeared on Spice FM on Thursday, defended his ministry's accomplishments and expressed frustration at being unfairly reduced to failures.

"We have done a lot in this Ministry beyond a generator and yet people want to reduce all these efforts that we have done in financing, to the Minister, on a failed generator, granted, this has been a challenge we have dealt with," he said.

During Governor Cheboi's Supercup finals in Kabarnet on Tuesday, December 12, the Transport Minister acknowledged JKIA's dilapidated state and promised a comprehensive overhaul involving infrastructure upgrades and personnel changes.

"I am totally in charge of changing our infrastructure and in January we will announce the construction of a brand new terminal," he told reporters.

The recent December 11 blackout, the third in three months, impacted critical infrastructure, including JKIA, where backup generators failed, leaving the airport without power for several hours.
