At least ten passengers were critically injured when their plane crashed and caught fire in the Kiunga district of Lamu County, near the Kenya-Somalia border.
According to reports, the aircraft, a 5Y-GOK Cesna 208, flew to Kiunga last week to collect up Kibaoni pupils who succeeded in the KCPE exams for a trip to Nairobi. On Sunday, it returned the students safely.
The plane, carrying ten persons (two pilots, seven army officers, and one police officer), was climbing from the Kiunga airport when it collided with electricity poles and crashed, exploding into flames and burning beyond recognition.
