Businesswoman Nancy Kigunzu, famously by her street name, 'Mathe wa Ngara' , has been released on a Kes 1 million cash bail in the ongoing drug trafficking case leveled against her.

The Nairobi Court ordered Kigunzu to surrender her passport to the court while issuing the verdict on Wednesday.

'Mathe Wa Ngara' has been detained since her arrest on August 21 in connection with a drug bust in Nairobi's Ngara area, where large quantities of bhang and Kes 13.4 million in cash were seized.

Kigunzu was denied bail two weeks after her arrest on the basis that her suspected involvement in narcotics trafficking makes her a flight risk.

She claimed to have an underlying medical problem that needed to be monitored closely and treated with medication, and she had filed the bond application because she thought her condition might get worse if she was granted bail.

However, Magistrate Njeri Thuku decided that it was not in the interests of justice to give her bond.
