Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko celebrated President William Ruto's 57th birthday on Thursday by recounting how he assisted him in 2004.
Sonko took to social media to praise Ruto as a good man, claiming that he once sold him a Range Rover that nearly cost his family their lives.
The flamboyant politician claimed to have purchased a Range Rover from Ruto, Agriculture Minister. Daniel Moi, the late president, previously owned the Range Rover.
In addition, at the time Sonko purchased the Range Rover from Ruto, Moi's other car had gone missing, and the dreaded flying squad was looking for it.

"I vividly remember one morning my wife and children were driving to Uchumi Supermarket in Buruburu when they were spotted and stopped by the flying squad team that had mistaken the car with the stolen one that belonged to the retired president. Out of panic, my wife sped off, but the flying squad team pursued her, arrested her, and confiscated the car at Buruburu police station," Sonko revealed.
He recalls Moi being in an accident with the same car from Nakuru to Nairobi.
As the car was being held at the Buruburu police station, Sonko, who had been introduced to Ruto by a mutual friend, sought an audience with him.
"At this point, I sought the intervention of the birthday boy (Ruto) who without hesitation instructed the former PA to Mzee Moi to make a statement denying the reports that the vehicle that was detained at Buruburu police station was not the one stolen from Mzee Moi. My car was later released," he further revealed.
Even after the vehicle was released, Sonko claims that the negative publicity it received in the media focused too much attention on him and his family.
This prompted him to look into changing the car's license plates. Again, he encountered a stumbling block that required Ruto's intervention.
"However, since the images and videos of my car were circulated all over the media, around the year 2008, I decided to go to the registrar of motor vehicle offices to request for change of number plate. The registrar declined my request and told me to come with a letter of no objection from the registered owner of the car. I personally went back to look for the then Agriculture minister at his private offices at Transnational Plaza," Sonko added, sharing documents showing Ruto instructing the registrar to change the plates.
He described Ruto as a kindhearted person who listens to and helps everyone, regardless of their relationship.
