French police detained a man with a history of psychological illness on suspicion of murdering his Haitian-born wife and their four, seven, and ten-year-old children.

According to authorities, the man, a plumber, has been getting therapy for depression and psychotic conduct since 2017.
According to the results of Wednesday's autopsy, the children's 35-year-old mother and her 10- and seven-year-old girls each got "around 10 stab wounds" that were "administered with great violence," according to Meaux public prosecutor Jean-Baptiste Bladier.
He stated that the four-year-old and nine-month-old boys "died of asphyxia following drowning."
According to the prosecutor, the defendant stated that he "was unable to identify a trigger for his act." The prosecution stated that he "felt nothing" and "felt empty" after murdering his family.
The suspect "indicated that he had been taking his daily medication" since 2019 but had not taken it on December 24, according to Bladier.
Prosecutors did not disclose the specific date of the murder. Police discovered the remains at 9:00 p.m. on Monday. Neighbors reported hearing screaming downstairs on the night of December 24 to 25.
In 2019, the man was arrested after slashing his partner in the shoulder blade when she was pregnant with their third child and then attempting suicide. She had declined to file charges.
