Siaya Governor James Orengo has continued criticizing Kenya Kwanza's administration for the country's deteriorating economy.

He claims President William Ruto's administration needs to be more knowledgeable about economic revival strategies, which is why Kenya is currently Africa's poorest economy.

The governor expressed regret that, for the first time in the country's history, the government is so broke that it cannot even send money to the counties.

"In the world of Africa now... you look at all the economies in Africa, Kenya is doing very badly. Yesterday I spoke to someone very senior in government and he told me things are very very bad. There is no money in the economy. The government, for the first time, is not giving natural funds which should go to the constituencies. Although Kenya Kwanza is talking very loudly, they are not sending money to the counties," said Orengo.

Orengo expressed regret that countries such as Uganda, Ethiopia, and even Tanzania are receiving more foreign investments than Kenya, owing to the country's current economic decline.

He claimed that Ethiopia's economy is now many times larger than Kenya's and that Tanzania's economy has expanded seven times in the last 20 years.

"You have heard Uganda is now getting more foreign investment than Kenya... You have heard that Ethiopia is now a bigger economy than Kenya many times. You have heard that the Tanzanian economy has expanded in the last 20 years seven times and Tanzania is doing much better than Kenya," he said.

Siaya County MP Dr. Christine Ombaka, for her part, chastised President William Ruto for the high cost of living, accusing his administration of burdening Kenyans with excessive taxes.

She stated that Kenyans are tired and requested that taxes be reduced in 2024.
