Embracing technological progress, the Ministry of Education has bid farewell to the outdated and cumbersome SMS system for checking KCSE results. The previously inconvenient and costly service, charging 25 shillings per message, has now been replaced by the user-friendly KEMIS portal for the year 2024. Education CS Ezekiel Machogu introduced this new system, highlighting its accessibility and cost-free nature for applicants.

No longer do individuals need to queue at cyber cafes or rely on SMS services to retrieve results. The KEMIS portal provides a streamlined and efficient method to access KCSE 2023 results online. This advancement not only benefits individual applicants but also enables schools to promptly receive printed copies of exam results after their release.

To check your KCSE 2023 results on the KEMIS portal, follow these simple steps:

1. Visit http://kemis.education.go.ke to access the KEMIS portal.

2. Locate the section labeled "2023 KCSE Results."

3. Click the "Open" button to proceed to the "Check KCSE Results" webpage.

4. Enter your 11-digit KCSE index number in the "Index" field.

5. Type your middle name or first name in the "Name" field (avoid using both if your name is compound).

6. Click the search button, and voila! Your complete set of KCSE results will be displayed on the screen.

7. Capture a snapshot of your outcomes for future reference.

Notably, any discrepancies or challenges encountered should be promptly reported to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) within 30 days, accompanied by the necessary supporting evidence.

The KNEC portal also facilitates the download of result slips, available approximately a week after the school receives the printed results. Schools can access and print these slips from www.knec-portal.ac.ke, using login credentials provided during candidate registration.

Understanding the symbols on the KCSE results slip is crucial:

- \( X \): Indicates a candidate who did not take one or more papers during the examination.

- \( Y \): Implies a candidate engaged in an irregularity during the examination.

- P: Denotes a candidate with a pending result due to incorrect information provided during registration.

- \( W \): Signifies results held back due to suspicion of cheating, under investigation.

- \( \mathrm{U} \): Represents a candidate who did not meet the minimum requirements for grade awards.
