After coming to an agreement with the Homa Bay County Government, the Union of Health Care Workers in the county has decided to postpone the strike scheduled for Monday.
The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN), Clinical Officers, Laboratory Technicians, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), and other union members were going to go on strike starting on Monday in protest of delayed salary payments, promotions, and the reinstatement of colleagues whose names were removed from the payroll without cause.
Nevertheless, following a meeting with the county's top health department officials, union representatives called for the continuation of work on Monday night and halted the strike.
Speaking on behalf of other union officials, National Vice Chairperson of Clinical Officers Austine Odiwuor stated that they had decided to halt the walkout when the county government expressed a desire to resolve the specifics of their complaints promptly.
