Nigeria’s southwestern state of Lagos has banned using styrofoam and single-use plastics to address environmental concerns and promote sustainability.

According to Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Services Tokunbo Wahab, the ban is part of a comprehensive effort to mitigate the adverse effects of plastic pollution on the environment and public health.

Speaking on his X handle, he said the ban takes immediate effect and will apply to the production, distribution, and use of styrofoam containers and single-use plastics such as bags and disposable cutlery.
