Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has called President Ruto's affordable project the biggest scam in Kenya's history.

"This will be the biggest scam in the history of this country," Wamuchomba declared.

She said that the government wants to collect levy behind the program.

“The reason why I have been criticizing this housing levy is because somebody is using the name housing levy to collect tax but the said tax is not going to the housing programme,” said the MP in an interview with KTN News.

She criticized the affordable housing project, claiming that it is punishing and that better solutions exist to the country's housing crisis.

The Githunguri MP claimed that the government is using the housing charge as a cover to pay off the national debt.

"The thinking behind the housing levy is a means of collection of money that we desperately need to pay loans."

“Someone wittingly crafted it as a housing program so that people can accept it because lack of decent housing is one of the country’s pressing needs,” the Githunguri MP mentioned.

The senator emphasized that the previous regime initiated the residences being unveiled by President Ruto. She criticized the present government for adopting the contentious housing levy tax, while former President Uhuru Kenyatta did not follow suit.

“Right now the houses President Ruto is launching were started by the previous regime. The houses in Ruiru were started by Uhuru Kenyatta... It is a private partnership thing that was started earlier on,” asserted the MP.

Wamuchomba also questioned whether the housing charge funded the houses built by the former President.
