The Ministry of Education data shows that over 130,000 boys and girls who sat for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) across Kenya have yet to transition to secondary school.
According to the Ministry of Education report, as of 26th January, while children have reported to either secondary school or joined tertiary institutions, 131,854 children have not reported to the school.
The ministry placed 1.39 million Children in secondary schools. Ninety-one percent of these have reported to schools, the rest have not.
The low transition rate is recorded in Kajiado County, where only 64 percent of the children joined high school.
Others like Kilifi, Narok, and Isiolo counties also registered less than 80 percent transition rates, while Bungoma and Baringo are among counties that send 82 and 85 percent of their children to secondary school.
