Meru senator Kathuri Murungi has criticized the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) after President Ruto's official vehicle burst a tire after hitting a pothole.

On Monday, around midday, Senator Murungi gave a speech at Ntharene, which is located along the Meru-Embu highway.

"I felt so sorry for the president kuona gari yake imegonga na imepasuka mguu," the Senator said on Monday.

"Imagine if we were going downhill na imepiga mguu, what would have happened to the Head of State."

The senator claims that on Saturday, January 27, the president's official vehicle struck a pothole while traveling uphill and quickly stopped.

"With that speed of the presidential motorcade, if we were going downhill, we would now be talking of a very different matter," he added.

Senator Kathuri now accuses KeNHA of neglecting to maintain the Meru-Embu highway, claiming that it has numerous potholes that put drivers and pedestrians at risk.

The lawmaker pleaded with KeNHA to fix the highway and bring some of the heavily traveled KERRA Roads up to code.

The outspoken senator further requests that KeNHA award maintenance contracts to locals, arguing that they are best suited to handle repairs as quickly as feasible.
