Two Grade Three students from Lieta Kabunde Primary School in Homa-Bay County drowned while swimming in a River after being sent home by the school to collect pending school fees.

The children, identified as Jim Paul Juma, 9, and Peter Ochieng, 10, were reportedly sent home to collect the remaining Ksh.800 after paying only Ksh.200 apiece, although the school required Ksh.1000 from each pupil.

It was alleged that they were discovered dead in the river around Thursday midday.

Hilda Juma claims that his son Juma left home at 6 a.m. to go to school and was sent home three hours later, only to be discovered dead in the river.

Ochieng's father, Samson Nyong'o, ties his son's murder to illegal payments that the school imposes on parents, demanding explanations from the school administration and education officials for the death of two students.

Education officials who visited the school stated that they had already initiated an investigation into the incident.
