The senator for Trans Nzoia County has pleaded with President William Ruto to address the county's looming demolitions as the government aims to pave the way for affordable housing.
In a statement to newsrooms on Friday, Chesang urged Ruto to reassess the eviction procedure and seek an alternative solution to avoid more complications, even as the government attempts to use the site for its affordable housing program.
The property, owned by Kitale Prisons, was sold to the current tenants through third parties, who were unaware that the State owned the parcel.

Chesang further stated that the locals, who number over 100,000, risk losing their businesses and livelihoods.
“The affected residents are willing and ready to engage with relevant ministries to seek a mutually beneficial resolution,” said the legislator.
“The demolition of properties, currently valued in billions, poses a potential crisis and displacement for our people. Alternative government lands are available for development.”
While maintaining his support for the ambitious goal of providing affordable housing to Kenyans, Chesang suggested that the government consider using alternate land to build the project.
"I implore His Excellency to revisit this directive, to come to the ground, and to listen to the genuine concerns of the affected population," he said.
According to the Senator, army officers have been dispatched to the region and have begun marking beacons.
