Two police officers from Kabonge police station in Ndia, Kirinyaga County, have been detained at Baricho police station in connection to the disappearance of an AK47 firearm.

According to Kirinyaga West sub-county police commander Moses Koskei, the two officers were in the police station when the firearm went missing for unknown reasons.

"The two were on duty when the gun allegedly got lost and they are being held here at Baricho police station as we continue with our investigations so that the officers can give more information which can give us crucial leads," Koskei said.

The police chief promised people that the ongoing investigations would result in the recovery of the firearm.

Residents have raised concern about the missing AK47 rifle, claiming it could be the same weapon used to conduct crimes in Kirinyaga.

"We don't know how loaded the AK47 is although we are being told it has 30-round ammunition," said Peter Kinyua
