Charlene Ruto has dived into the country's unemployment crisis, pushing young people to step up and find their footing in whatever they are passionate about rather than waiting for help.

While speaking on a citizen TV show, she complained about a shortage of work prospects for young people in the country, claiming that it can only be fixed by the youth generating opportunities for themselves.

Charlene revealed that she had received numerous resumes from her fellow youngsters yearning for work. She advised young people in the country to look for alternatives because there weren't enough jobs to fit their ever-increasing number.

She urged young people not to sit around passively but to move out of their comfort zones and connect with the right networks and possibilities.

"If we were to employ as many individuals as possible through our organizations, because I can't tell you how many CVs and job applications I have on my desk, we could hire 3,000 young people. "It is a drop in the ocean; we account for 70% of Kenya's over 50 million population," she remarked.

“The best thing we can do for our young people is create opportunities for them...the network. I’d like to call on our young people, let’s not sit and be lazy.”

Charlene said that the only thing the government can do is recognize and support the opportunities created by the youth to expand their businesses.

She also referenced her experience as a patron of the Smachs Foundation, encouraging young people to explore and appreciate their passions rather than seeking paid professions, which she believes may not be available.

“You are passionate about something, don’t give up on that. Reach out to us, and give us your idea. I give a listening ear to somebody who has already started something and I can see where they are going and I can put something in other than somebody who is like ‘give me a job’...which job?” She posed.

“Where am I going to get the job from? But if you tell me that ‘I’m passionate about tree planting or beekeeping, could you come to visit my farm or could you help me get a piece of land somewhere, I want to expand’...these are the young people we’re going to give a listening ear to.”
